Individual Details

James Lawson

(Abt 1790 - )

It's likely this James is the James Jr who appears on the tax rolls for only one year - 1811 - as being over age 16. That same year his father Isaac's household had been reduced by one male over age 16. Presumably James had turned 17 in 1811. He could have been older and just leaving his father's household that year. Isaac and James appeared to leave their father's household in successive years so were probably very close to the same age. There is no further evidence of this James Lawson in Rockbridge - perhaps he left home at an early age, or died.

There is a marriage for a James Lawson to Mrs. Mary Taylor on 15 Mar 1810, which has often been attached to this man. A later Chancery Court case reveals that this was a second marriage for the James Lawson, son of Robert Lawson Sr and not this James.

A James Lawson served in the War of 1812 Johnson's Regt, Mounted, Kentucky Volunteers - but not way to know if this was this James who was more likely in Virginia in 1812.
