David Lawson

(Abt 1785 - )

David's birth as about 1785 is estimated from the time Isaac first again declares a 2nd male over age 16 in his household in 1802 [Robert appeared to have already left home]. In 1807 when a David Jr appears on the tax rolls as himself for the first time, Isaac's houshold is reduced by an adult male. It would appear that although he was called David Jr - he was not a son of the older David Lawson living in Rockbridge. That older David had married Hannah Dale in 1793 and they could not be the parents of this David Jr. David and Hannah did also have a son named David as cited in his will. I believe without doubt there were three David Lawsons in Rockbridge since a son David is cited in both the wills of Isaac Lawson and of David Lawson.

1810 Census:
David Lawson Jr. 1m age 26-45. 1f 16-26.

1 Feb 1813 Lawsuit
William Gilmore, plaintiff, against David Lawson, Isaac Lawson, Andrew Walkup, Joshua Hicks and John McCampbell.
Motion for award of execute on a Delivery Bond
The defendants had legal notice of this action and were called but came not. The Court decreed that the Plaintiff recover $144.60, the penalty of the said bond to be discharged by payment of $22.33 with interest from Nov 10th, 1812, until payment and his costs expended to be awarded. Court Orders, Bk 1813-1815, p.7
One wonders why so many were involved. Although this Lawsuit does not state which David, because of the presence of Isaac Lawson and Joshua Hicks, I suspect it is the David, son of Isaac.

1820 Census. Rockbridge Co VA:
David Lawson. 2m under 10, 1m 26-45. 2f under 10 [the 2 could also be interpreted as a 4, seems to be a strikeover, but 2 seems more reasonable], 1f age 26-45.

It appears that possibly David and his brother Andrew went on West to Mason Co VA before 1830. Andrew appears there in the census as Andrew K. Lawson, making it fairly certain that's the same Andrew. David was listed, about ten years olders:
1830 Census. Mason Co VA
David Lawson: 1m -5, 3m 5-10, 1m 15-20, 1m 40-50. 1f 10-15, 3f 15-20, 1f 30-40.
David was not found there in 1840, although Andrew Lawson was still in Mason Co.
