Henry Byrd is found in the Revolutionary Pension files, #S-30307. He applied from Hawkins Co TN in 1835, and in 1855, while a resident of Morgan Co KY again deposed to continue his pension. He did serve from Montgomery Co VA in 1780 and 1781, and gave his year of birth as 1764.
26 May 1835. Byrd stated his age as 72 years. He entered the service as a private under the command of Capt James Nevel, Mjr William Love, and Colo. Stephens on the 1 of Sept 1780 in Montgomery Co VA. They met at the lead mines and were ordered to guard the frontier and prevent the Indians from doing mischief. They crossed the New River and went into the Blue Ridge mountains to Flower Gap. They returned home the 1st of November. About the first of the year, 1781, there was a call for men to go into North Carolina. Henry was drafted on the 1st of Feb, 1781, under the command of Capt. Saunders, Colo. Crocket. He was stationed to guard the mines for six months. He returned home the first of Aug, 1781. There was again a call to go after the Indians and he volunteered around the first of September, 1781. He was then under the command of Capt. Doke and Colo. Ward. They rendezvoused at Cripple Creek and marched to the Holston River, then to Russell Co VA, then to the head of the Clinch River at Whitley's Ford and to Pierre's Station where they laid up for some time. They returned home about the first of December. Henry knew of no one that could testify to his service. He signed his mark: Henry (x) Bird
William C. Reynolds, clergyman, of Hawkins Co TN, testified that he believed Henry Byrd to be 72 years of age and that he had served in the Revolution.
There were questions given to Henry Byrd: He stated he was born 1764 in Prince Edward Co, VA. He volunteered twice and was drafted once. He lived in Montgomery Co VA and moved to Lee Co VA and from there to Hawkins Co TN. He again listed the officers he'd served under naming, Stephens, Love, Ward, Saunders, Joseph Baker, Colo. Rogers, Hardy Mills, Jack Mills, James Bird, and John Mills. The court certified they believed he had been a soldier in the Revolution on 26 May 1835.
24 Apr 1836. Henry Byrd again appeared before the Court. He restated much of what he had said the previous year but described more about the conditions of the frontier and dangers of the Indians where he was living and that he had not served in a civil capacity at the lead mines or any other place. He again signed with his mark: Henry (x) Byrd
7 Apr 1855. Henry Byrd, age 92, resident of Morgan Co KY. He again stated his service in the Revolution for the purpose of obtaining the land to which he might be entitled. He had never received bounty land. He was receiving a pension of $66 dollars and 4 shillings. Henry (x) Bird. Jesse Day and Archabel Childers witnessed.
It is evident from the copies provided on HeritageQuest that this file contains more information. When his pension appeared on Footnote, there wasn't a great deal more information - there was a point in time when he was not paid and believed dead and he also had to write several letters getting trying to get his pension transferred after he moved to Kentucky.

Children of Henry and Nancy are said to have been John, b. 1801, Jane, b. 1804, Henry J. b. 1809, William, b. 1814, and Polly.

Said to be in the DAR Library in the supporting documentation file, there is a paper said to be from John Byrd's Bible. "John Byrd, youngest son of Henry Byrd, was born June 15h 1801, and Anna Tutt was born Aug 27th 1809. They were married March 25th 1825."
"Henry Byrd the father of John Byrd was born March 1st 1757 he died Feb 18th at the age of 102.
