Samuel Ward

Samuel was a Sergeant of the Fairfield Trainband and a Deputy in Fairfield.
Some have suggested his first wife was named Alice, but this is incorrect. Her given name is unknown. She was a daughter of Richard Ogden.
Samuel married second Hannah, widow of Jonathan Nichols of Stratford. She was a daughter of Mr. Anthony Howkins. Hannah married (3) to John Judson of Woodbury; she died in Woodbury on 23 Jul 1698. Her will was made the day before her death and named three Nichols children and a daughter Hannah Ward.
The date of the death shown here is the date of his estate inventory. Administration was granted the widow Hannah and son Edmund Ward. Allowance was made to the widow, 29 Mar 1692/3, for bringing up Sgt. Ward's youngest child and the other three children of her former husband Jonathan Nichols; mention was made of the eldest son, the other five sons, and one daughter. 12 Apr 1694, Edmund Ward had removed out of the Colony and Nathaniel Burr and Eliphalet Hill as overseers were instructed to proceed with the administration.
That Samuel Ward had six sons is evident from the above record. The Warde book omitted a son Andrew.
