Individual Details
Melvina "Viney" GAGNON
(22 Jun 1882 - 6 Aug 1970)
Divorced from first husband, Francis CASTONGUAY, 7 MAY 1908.
Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake, Minnesota.
Very outgoing, jolly, exuberant personality. Played piano -- liked to sing along (Oh, Dem Golden Slippers!)
Doris Raboin Larson showed me a note written by Viney, dated 24 Nov 1955 and attached to a rosary. It reads: "Grandma's rosary was given to her as a First Communion gift by Monseigneur LaGleche (?) at Three Rivers, when she was 12 years old. Grandma died at the age of 77 years. That is 40 years ago. The rosary is 110 years old." Doris added in 1988, "The Grandma, in this case, was my Great-Grandma, my father's Grandma." I believe this must refer to Olivine Duchemin, who was indeed both the grandmother of Viney and the step-great-grandmother of Doris. Her obituary lists her age at death as 77, although she was in fact just short of 71.

Census (family)
Daggett is part of Stephenson Township. Max and Viney were living alone at this time. He is described as a farmer, 57 years old, a naturalized citizen, who immigrated in 1860. This last statement is wrong; he came in approximately 1870. Malvina was 27 years old, according to the census, and she and Maxim had been married for 2 years.http://interactive.ancestry.com/7884/31111_4330162-01078?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2fsearch%2fdb.aspx%3fdbid%3d7884%26path%3d&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnBrowsing#?imageId=31111_4330162-01079
Census (family)
Enumerated with this household were Maxime Raboin, a farmer, age 68; his wife, Melvina Raboin, age 37; and a boarder, Louis Chouinard, age 37. It states that he was a naturalized citizen, and had immigrated in 1889. The latter statement is wrong -- he had immigrated by 1871.http://interactive.ancestry.com/6061/4312594-01054?backurl=http%3a%2f%2fsearch.ancestry.com%2fsearch%2fdb.aspx%3fdbid%3d6061%26path%3d&ssrc=&backlabel=ReturnBrowsing#?imageId=4312594-01058
Census (family)
Max J. Raboin, a farmer, age 78; and Melvina Raboin, age 48.Census states that Max was a naturalized citizen, immigrated in 1869. It also states that at the time of their first marriages, Max was 55 and Melvina was 25. This is wrong -- these ages refer to their own marriage to each other.
