HAMLIN COUNTY RESIDENT DIES
Funeral Services for Oliver Boadwine, 74, to be Held Wednesday
Oliver Edward Boadwine, 74, prominent Hamlin county farmer and a resident of South Dakota since 1879 died at a local hospital yesterday morning at 7:35 o'clock.
He resided two miles east and one half mile south of Thomas.
With him at the time of his death were seven children, one brother and one sister. He had been ill for more than a year.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Immaculate Conception church. Burial will be made in the Thomas cemetery. The body will be at the Shaw-Messer chapel until the time of the service.
Mr. Boadwine was born at Green Bay, Wis., May 16, 1866. He married Miss Bertha Olive Stark who died January 1, 1922, at Thomas.
He came to South Dakota in 1879, settling first in Codington county, and then stayed in Watertown until his father was able to complete arrangements for filing on a claim in Oxford township of Hamlin county where they moved in 1880.
Mr. Boadwine continued to live on the homestead until 1901 when he filed on a homestead of his own which he has continued to maintain.
He served on the district school board more than 40 years and was exceptionally active in civic matters. He also served on the board of directors of the farmer's elevator at Thomas and as township supervisor.
Mr. Boadwine was a member of the Catholic church. He was confirmed in October, 1878.
Survivors include: five sons, Nelson R., Francis, A. Graydon, Noel and Howard, all of Thomas, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Griffen and Mrs. Lyle Lee, both of Thomas, 13 grandchildren and one brother Frank X. of Thomas, and one sister, Mrs. F. C. Helbing of Glenwood, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, five brothers four sisters and three grandchildren."
