As was briefly stated in the last issue of the Herald, Mrs. Oliver E. Boadwine passed away quite suddenly at her home east of Thomas, early Sunday or New Years morning. The news of her untimely death brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of the many relatives and friends of this community. A sadness akin to pain, spread over our town and community when it was passed from one to another, that one amongst us was dead, yes gone. She was taken sick on Thursday evening previous to her death, so she was ill but a short time. The cause of her death being a combined attack of quinsy and la grippe.
The deceased was born in Fillmore county, Minnesota on September 13, 1879, being the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stark of Thomas. At the age of but two years she with her parents removed to this community, and it was here she played as a child, developed into womanhood it was here where the greatest portion of her career was spent, and where she now lies at length, to rest. On November 18, 1986, she was united in marriage to Oliver E. Boadwine, and they have made their home here every since.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, eight children, one sister, Mrs. C.A. Packer of Rathdrum, Idaho, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stark of Thomas.
The funeral services were held at the Thomas M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon, January 4th, Rev. Allen Curtis officiating, assisted by Rev. Parliament of Hazel. Rev. Curtis paid a loving tribute to the deceased. The music and singing rendered by the choir at the services was indeed touching. The church was filled beyond its capacity and an unusual large procession followed the remains to the adjoining cemetery, where at the open grave we bid our farewell to the departed ones and where God's purest angels stand guard. The relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Helbing of Glenwood, Minnesota.
The casket was covered with many beautiful flowers and it seems that they are the best emblem we have to express our love for we wreathe them around the cradle, the marriage altar and the tomb. On card appended could have appropriately been placed these words: "Fare thee well, oh thou to memory dear! Dust to dust, and lulled to slumbers sweet; Sleep on forever in the prison drear, But in the realms on high shall our spirits meet." In this hour of sorrow and affliction we join with the citizens of this community in extending to the bereaved relatives our tenderest and heartfelt sympathy.
