Mary Theotiste LAPLANTE

Two girls, both similarly named (Mary Theotiste and Theotiste Marie) were born to this couple in 1835 and 1836, and only one of them was listed on the 1850 Census (as Mary Laplante). The Mary on the 1850 Census was listed as 15 years old, which, if correct, would put her birth year in 1835. On the other hand, it seems likely that the first girl died before the second was born, considering the similar names. In fact, considering that the second girl was born only eleven months after the first, it seems likely that the first one survived only a very short time. Another alternative is that both girls were alive in 1850, but one had married. This would have been a very young marriage, but not unheard of in this period. In any case, I matched what I thought to be the most likely birth information with the girl on the 1850 Census, but this is a tentative conclusion.
