Van Buren St. died on Wednesday, April 25, 1990, at his home. He was born in Dodgeville, on May 12, 1918, the son of Harry and Kitty (Kirkpatrick) Strong. He was a veteran of the Army in WW II. On October 4, 1947, he married the former Mary Beth Klefsad; and for 35 years was a sales representative for the Folgers Coffee Company, which later became Proctor and Gamble until retiring. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Stoughton Country Club, was a past president and life member of the GMR, the American Legion, and the Mendota Gridiron Club. Surviving are his wife; two daughters Patty (Randy) DeGroot of Fitchburg, and Cindy Strong of Milwaukee; a son, J. K. II (Rene) of Stoughton, four grandchildren, Erik and Matthew DeGroot, and Michael and Danielle Strong; two sisters, Mary (I.C. Jr.) Collins of Stoughton, and Kay (Carl) Felly of Largo, Florida; he was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be on Monday, April 30, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Richard Larson officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery South with military graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Memorials may be made to the UW Hospital Cancer Research Center, Hospice Care of Dane County or the UW Athletic Gridiron Club. Olson-Holzhuter Funeral Home, Stoughton.
