Voyle V. Kirkpatrick was born 24 February 1886 in Pierce City, Lawrence County, Missouri and died 16 January 1967. Voyle was a railroad man, and worked for sixty-two years for the Kansas City Southern Railroad. He was still actively working for the railroad in 1966 at the age of eighty. He was a self-taught civil engineer who specialized in building rail yards and terminals. He married 2 October 1916 in Neosho, Newton County, Missouri, to Mariana Wills, who was born in Neosho.

There were four (4) children born of the marriage.
