James Wills Kirkpatrick

James Wills Kirkpatrick, 83, of Fairway, KS, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Friday, May 9, 2003. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. Burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak, Kansas City, MO 64111. Jim was born on April 6, 1920, in Neosho, MO, to Voyle V. and Mary Ann (Wills) Kirkpatrick. He attended the Rolla School of Mining and Engineering where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. During his senior year he left school on the day after Pearl Harbor to enlist in the Army. He served in the Philippines and Japan. Jim married Annabel Fisher on April 3, 1945. He was an avid traveler, bridge player and historian. He was the retired President of Manildra Milling Corporation. Over their married lifetime, Jim and Annabel traveled to over 50 countries. Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a longtime member of the Village Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his daughter, Susan Wills Kirkpatrick and granddaughter, Rebecca Blair Kirkpatrick, both of Tacoma, WA; son, Stephen Fisher Kirkpatrick, Overland Park, KS; sisters, Ann Mackie, Leawood, KS, and Jane LaPlante, Prairie Village, KS; and numerous nephews and nieces.
