William D. Elliott served in the Civil War as a Private, Company I, 25th Infantry. Enlisted from Fairplay, Grant Co., Wisconsin. Served from Aug. 8, 1862 to M.O. [mustered out] June 7, 1865. He was blinded from his service.

Today is it a sad duty to record the death of William Elliott, which occurred last evening at his residence on South K street, in this city, after a brief illness of one week from pneumonia. deceased was about 56 years of age. His residence in this city has been brief, he having moved here two years ago. He was, however, an old soldier and a member in good standing of McPherson Post G. A. R.,, which organization will have charge of his funeral at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon the late Mr. Elliott served his country as a member of a Wisconsin regiment during the rebellion, and has a good clean record as a soldier.
He leaves a widow and two daughters to mourn his loss. Revs. Robin of the Methodist church and Curry of the Baptist church, at the request of the family, will assist each other in the services.
