Robert James McCance

The Union, Nevada Co., California, November 19, 2009: Robert “Bob” McCance died peacefully at home Nov. 18, surrounded by his loving family after seven years of living with dementia caused by Lewy bodies disease. He was 81. Memorial services will be private. He was born August 20, 1928, in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., to John and Mary Grace (Brown) McCance. He graduated from high school in Long Beach, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. McCance owned gasoline stations in Long Beach and then owned an automobile frame shop in Santa Ana. He retired to Grass Valley in 1989. He met his wife, Pat Paddock, while ballroom dancing in Southern California in 1986, and they married in Reno in 1991. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Pat Paddock of Grass Valley; sons Robert (Sandy) of Hesperia and Gary (Sandy) of Menifee; stepchildren Anne (Jay) Hardy of Nipomo, Kathy (Wes) Palmer of Nevada City, Brian Paddock and Steve Dryburgh, both of Grass Valley; grandchildren Zachary and Chase McCance, Tony and Alex McCance, Kayla Palmer, and Dylan and Jared Hardy. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. McCance's memory to the Interfaith Food Ministry, P.O. Box 1174, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Arrangements are under direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary and Crematory.
