Herald-Democrat, 11 April 1946: J. R. Porter Dies in Little Rock Hospital. J. R. Porter, 75 of Harmony retired merchant died Wednesday morning April 10, at a Little Rock Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at the Harmony Presbyterian Church. Interment under the direction of the Hardwicke Funeral Home will be in the Harmony Cemetery. Porter, who was born and spent his entire life in Johnson County was a leading citizen in the community. He owned and operated a general store at Harmony for many years, retiring several months ago because of ill health. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. C.A. Trotter, Harmony, one son, R. B. Porter, Boone, N.C.; one sister Mrs. Una Bennett, Harmony, and two brothers, Gus Porter, Harmony and G. C. Porter, Farmington, Ark.
