Obituary of Mrs. Nancy Baskins Porter from Herald-Democrat 7 June 1934: Aged County Resident Dies Early Saturday. One of the oldest residents in Johnson county was claimed by death Saturday morning, when Mrs. Nancy Baskins Porter, 92 years old of Harmony, northwest of here died at her home after an illness of three days. Believed to be the oldest resident in the county, Mrs. Porter was born near Harmony, May 11, 1842, the daughter of the late J. M. and Milissa Laster Baskins, pioneer residents of the county who came here from Tennessee in 1839 and 1831 respectively. She was married to County Judge J. B. Porter in 1860 and had spent her entire life near Harmony. She and her husband celebrated their golden anniversary in 1910 just three years before Judge Porter died in 1913. There were nine children born to this union, with five surviving. Mrs. Porter, who was known widely as "Aunt Puss" had been a member of the Harmony Presbyterian church for the last 78 years. Funeral service was conducted from the Harmony Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock Sunday morning. Rev. J. J. Partain, paster of the church officiated. Burial was made at the Harmony cemetery with the Hardwick Funeral Home of this city in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Porter is survived by four sons, John T. Porter of Fort Smith, Guy C. Porter of Farmington, J. R. Porter and Gus Porter both of Harmony, one daughter, Mrs. Una Bennett of Harmony; three brothers, one sister; 22 grand-children, and 30 great grand children.
