The Fresno Bee, Dec. 19, 1961, Tuesday, Section 7-C: Mrs. Ethel Wofford. Funeral services are being arranged for Mrs. Ethel Wofford, 74, the widow of a veteran forester of the Sierra National Forest. Mrs. Wofford died yesterday in a Fresno Hospital after a long illness. Her husband, Audie, who died in 1959 served 37 years in the Sierra, first as a forest guard and later as a fire control assistant on the supervisor's staff before he retired in 1942. Mrs. Wofford moved to Fresno from her native Nebraska in 1909. A year later she was married to Wofford. They lived in North Fork, Madera County, until he retired, then they moved to Fresno. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Wofford had lived with her daughters, Mrs. Eunice Lorentzen of Goarsegold, Madera County and Mrs. Eula Thorne of Bishop, Inyo County. Her other survivors are a brother, Earl McCance of Indio, Riverside County; five sisters, Mrs. Mabel Beverson of Long Beach, Mrs. Esther Camp of Atascadero, San Luis Obispo County, Mrs. Nellie Thomas of Cloverdate, Sonoma County, Mrs. Grace Snyder and Mrs. Elsie Restine, both of Nebraska and four grandchildren.
