On the U. S. Census of 1910 Waterloo, Black Hawk Co., Iowa, Raymond F. Smith is in the household of his brother William A. Smith, along with their parents. Raymond is a wood worker at a door factory.

On the U. S. Census of 1920 Philadelphia City, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania he is living at 2616 N. 27th St. with wife, Lillian, age 28. His occupation is salesman for a bakery. There is a boarder in the household named Albert Farley, an auto mechanic.

On the 1930 U. S. Census of Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, Raymond F. Smith appears with his wife Lillian. They show they have been married about 20 years. There are no children in the home. Raymond is a salesman of something to do with sewing.

Raymond's niece, Ila Jeanne Smith Shepherd Bauer, recalled in December 1999, that when her father William Ara Smith was ill in the Veterans Hospital in Chicago with his first heart attack, Raymond took Jeanne and her sister May to a Cubs baseball game. It was probably in 1936.

On the 1940 U. S. Census of Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois Raymond is divorced and working at a library.

Raymond's death certificate stated no Social Security Number, he was a veteran of World War I. At the time of his death he was a dramatic instructor for the Chicago Park District. He had lived in Chicago for 20 years. He died of coronary thrombosis, acute arteral sclerosis. He and his wife lived at 3013 N. Broadway, Chicago, Illinois.

Suburbanite Economist, Chicago, Illinois, May 9, 1951, Front Page: Centennial Pageant Director Succumbs Suddenly Monday. Raymond Smith, 59, of 3013 Broadway, former Dramtic instructor at Palmer Park, and director of the Roseland centennial pageant, "Rainbow Over Roseland" presented in the Summer of 1949 at Palmer Park, died suddenly Monday, May 7, of a heart ailment. Mr. Smith was dramatics instructor at Palmer park until several months ago when he was forced to take a leave of absence because of ill health. He died Monday as he was returning to work in a new assignment at the Park District Drama Shop in Washington Park.

Rosehill Cemetery records show W-1 f/1C USN USS "Prometheus." This is WW I, Fireman First Class in U. S. Navy, Ship: USS Prometheus. The USS Prometheus was a World War I repair ship in the Atlantic Fleet covering the Caribbean and Brest, France area.
