Morgan J. Smith

16th Illinois Volunteer Infantry in Civil War. Also found as Co. I, 16th Wisconsin Infantry. Wounded at Shiloh. Mustered out 20 December 1864 Term Expired.

Morgan's Civil War Pension file states he worked as a school teacher. He was wounded at the Battle of Pittsburg Landing or Shiloh. He was wounded in the left cheek and shoulder by a gunshot.

On 1880 Census of Jamestown, Grant Co., Wisconsin with wife Elizabeth, sister Almira (spelled Elmira) Eliot, and her children, Jane, Milton, and Byron Eliot. Also Henry Shuta, laborer.

On 1890 Veteran Schedule census for Grant Co., Wisconsin.

U. S. Census of 1900 at Jamestown, Grant Co., Wisconsin, Morgan listed as widower with children Willy, Mable and Ethel. Morgan's occupation is farmer.
