Appears on 1870 Grant Co., Wisconsin census with parents and siblings.
Appears on 1880 Jamestown Township, Grant Co. Wisconsin in the household of his brother A. E. along with their mother Jane and niece Lena Smith*. Ira states his occupation as engineer, marital status as single. *Should be Elliott.
His pension file shows he lived at Kansas City, Missouri in 1890.
Ira Edward Smith's Pension Certificate No. is 932,177. His pension file shows he lived in Wisconsin, Iowa and Kansas City, Missouri. He never married.
He lived at and died at the Old Soldier's Home/Northwestern Branch National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. His death certificate states he was buried at the home's cemetery. A call on Feb. 13, 2006 to the Wood National Cemetery, Wood, Wisconsin, confirmed that he is there, Section 11, plot 216.
