John Mortimer Kirkpatrick

John M. (his middle name is also given as McKendon) was born 23 January 1846 at Bloomfield, Illinois, and died 27 July 1904 at Stillwater, Payne County, Oklahoma. He was married on 4 October 1870 at Augusta, Illinois, to Katie [Katy per cemetery] Bostick who was born 8 October 1849 in Indiana at Lawrence (some say Lawrence Port). Katie died 29 march 1911 in Missouri. She and her husband are both buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She died at or near Kansas City, Missouri while on a visit.
John was a member of Company E, 50th Regiment of Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. he was 5 feet 4½ inches tall, fair skin, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He enlisted January 1864 at Quincy, Illinois, and mustered out at Louisville, Kentucky. He engaged in a number of occupations after the war including well-digging and owning and managing a restaurant.
There were five (5) children born of the marriage.
