Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Tuesday, February 7, 1961, page 10: Denver Lee Pilyer Sr., 57, of 1103 Kees Road, retired city policeman, died of a heart attack suddenly yesterday afternoon. A native of Fayette County and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pilyer, he retired from the Lexington Police Department in 1956 after 26 years of service. He was a member of the South Elkhorn Baptist Church and the Fraternal Order of Police. He is survived by his wife, Mary Rice Pilyer, Lexington; a daughter, Mrs. Irwin Carpenter, Florence; three sons, Denver Lee Pilyer Jr., Lexington; Marvin Pilyer, Pensacola, Fla., and Gerald Pilyer, Erlanger; a sister, Mrs. Bessie P. Jenkins, Corpus Christi, Texas, and six grandchildren. The body was taken to Kerr Brothers Funeral Home.

Lexington Herald, Lexington, Kentucky, Tuesday, February 8, 1961, page 12, Col. 5: Services for Denver Lee Pilyer Sr., 57, retired city policeman, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Oliver Drew. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Bearers will be E. C. Hale, Joe Modica, Espy Hedger, Owen Cottrell, W. T. Blanck and O. S. McCaw.
