Waterloo Daily Courier, Waterloo, Iowa, Sunday, December 18, 1949, Page 2, Col. 2: Mrs. Belle Kirkpatrick, 96, died late Friday at the Allen convalescent home. Death was caused by infirmities of age. she had been at the home for about a month. She had previously made her home with a daughter at 908 Conger streets. She had been a resident of Iowa more than 90 years and of Waterloo 45 years. She was the daughter of John Leach and one of 13 children in the family that came to Iowa in a covered wagon in 1858 and settled near Troy Mills in Linn county. She was married to Oliver T. Kirkpatrick, Feb. 24, 1880, at Troy Mills, Before her marriage she had attended Lenox college at Hopkinton, Ia. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death. Two daughters and one son survive. They include Mrs. R. C. Pedersen, 908 Conger street, Waterloo; Mrs. J. E. Swisher, Ann Arbor, Mich., and C. W. Kirkpatrick, 2913 Rainbow drive, Cedar Falls. There are also 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Kirkpatrick was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and for many years was active in temperance work. Funeral services will be at the Kistner funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Charles F. Jacobs and Rev. Charles E. Luce in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Waterloo.
