Kirkpatrick, 55, Waterloo carpenter, died Saturday of a skull fracture he suffered in early morning when he fell from the roof of a porch outside his room. Neither Coroner Sidney D. Smith nor police could shed light on how Kirkpatrick happened to be on the roof, unless he had slept there during the hot night.

U. S. Headstone Applications for Military Veterans 1925-1963 it shows Oliver Clarence Kirkpatrick had the rank of shipwright in the US Navy on the USS Susquehanna from June 7, 1917 to January 27, 1919. His brother Carl W. Kirkpatrick signed the application.
