Shirley Whicker was born December 19, 1939 in Jackson County and departed this life October 17, 2012 at her residence in Tyner, being 72 years of age. She was the daughter of the [late] Thomas R. & Ruby (Brumback) Hays. Shirley is survived by 2 children, Donna Madden and her husband Tim of Tyner and Randy Whicker and his wife Teresa of Gray Hawk. She is also survived by a sister, Sada Smith and her husband David of Evansville, IN and by 4 brothers, Fred Hays and his wife Barbara of Gray Hawk, Eldon Hays and his wife Cindy of Williamsburg, Delbert Hays and his wife Helen of West Carrollton, OH and Larry Rann Hays* of Alabama. Shirley was blessed with 6 surviving grandchildren, Eric Whicker, Falon Whicker, Shanay Medlock, Tiffany Medlock, Tammy Thompson and Nathan Boggs and by a host great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband James Whicker; by a son, Ricky Whicker; by a grandson, Chris Whicker and by the following brothers and sisters, Jack, Elbert & Hershel Hays, Bessie Morris, Everdean Tincher, Peggy Ingram & Minnes Ingram. Shirley was a member of the Blackwater Baptist Church #1. Funeral service was held 2:00 PM Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Carroll deForest and Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Hays Cemetery. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
