Carl Frederick "Fred" Hays

Posted at findagrave.com: Fred Hays, July 1, 1929 - March 1, 2018: Fred Hays, 88, of Gray Hawk, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at his home. Fred was born July 1, 1929 in Gray Hawk, Kentucky to Thomas Robert Hays and Ruby Frances Brumback Hays. On June 5, 1949, he married Barbara Sparks, the love of his life. Fred is survived by his wife, Barbara; his three sons, Larry Hays and his wife JoNell of Tyner; Dennis Hays and his wife Brenda of Gray Hawk, and Tracy Hays and his wife Connie of Berea; by six grandchildren: Jennifer (James) Rakowiecki; Shannon, Shaun (Tracie), Stephania, Jordan, and Ashley Hays; by five great grandchildren, Nicholas, Delanie, Isabella, Jacob and Madison; by one sister, Sada Smith of Evansville, Indiana and by a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and the following ten siblings: Bessie Morris, Everdean Tincher, Peggy Ingram, Minnes Ingram, Shirley Whicker, Elbert Hays, Delbert Hays, Jack W. Hays, Hershel Hays and Eldon Hays.
Fred was a diligent worker in all his endeavors. The highlight of his work life was serving as Sheriff of Jackson County for 12 years. He enjoyed many hobbies: restoring classic cars, horseback trail riding, trading, and collecting antiques, but most of all, he cherished time with his family and extended family. He is fondly remembered for his many acts of compassion and benevolence to those in need.
Fred was a member of the McKee Baptist Church. A celebration of life service 2:00 PM Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Lakes Funeral Home in McKee, Kentucky with Reverend Carroll de Forest officiating. Burial to follow in the Hays Family Cemetery in Gray Hawk. Pallbearers were Shaun Hays, Paul Hays, Rodney Morris, James Rakowiecki, Brian Post and Matt Moore. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
