Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, John Sparks and Rosa (Wilson) Sparks; her brother, Virgil R. Sparks; and by the love of her life and husband of 69 years, Fred C. Hays.
She is survived by her three sons: Larry and his wife JoNell of Tyner; Dennis and his wife Brenda of Gray Hawk, and Tracy and his wife Connie of Berea; by six grandchildren: Jennifer, Shannon, Shaun, Stephania, Jordan, and Ashley; by five great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Delanie, Isabella, Jacob and Madison; and by her sister, Alpha Sparks Allen of Camp Dennison, Ohio.
Barbara was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She dedicated her life to caring for family in sickness and in health. She was the primary caregiver for her husband in his illness and for many years cared for her mother, Rosa, in her home until her death at the age of 102. Her special gift was the wonderful meals she prepared for family gatherings to celebrate holidays, special occasions, and reunions. Her laughter and vibrant personality will be greatly missed. Barbara was a member of the Gray Hawk Baptist Church.

Funeral service was held Friday, April 13, 2018, at Lakes Funeral Home, McKee, Kentucky with Reverend Carroll deForest officiating. Burial followed at the Hays Family Cemetery in Gray Hawk. Pallbearers were: Shaun Hays, Nicholas Hays, James Rakowiecki, Brian Post, Terry Sparks, and Matt Moore. Lakes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
