Age 70 years, 1 month and 13 days. On November 4, 1896, he was united in marriage with Miss Havanna Belle Morgan, who survives her husband. To their marriage seven children were born. Also two granddaughters, two grandsons and two great grandsons, many other relatives, and it can be truly said a host of friends. William A. Garner lived his entire life here in Putnam county with the exception of the last seven months. His health was declining so fast, he and his wife, moved to Wichita, Kansas last November to be near their children. As a Christian man he was a worker for Christ and the salvation of souls. When young he confessed Christ as his Saviour and obeyed the gospel, uniting with the Christian congregation at the Union Church, later coming with his parents to West Liberty. He helped to organize a Christian congregation there and helped to build a house of worship which has since burned down. Later he moved to Powersville. He became a charter member of the present church there and helped in building the present Christian church building. After coming to Unionville he placed his membership in the local church, where he has served as a member of the board until he moved away, retaining his membership here. For most of his life Mr. Garner was in U. S. mail service, either Postmaster or rural carrier and everywhere he served his patrons were his friends. He was congenial and accommodating and his kindness was appreciated by all. He also had membership in the Masonic lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America. The following poem was read in the obituary [poem]. The body was brought by train arriving in Unionville Monday June 11 at 5 p.m. accompanied by Mrs. Garner and son, Billy. It was taken to the Comstock Funeral home to lie in waiting till Wednesday June 13, when it was taken to the Christian church where the funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p. m. at his request by a boyhood friend, Rev. J. D. Noland, assisted by the Masonic Order and attend[ed] by many long time friends and neighbors.
