Individual Details
Sarah "Sade" Lemmon
(13 Feb 1844 - 16 Mar 1912)
Sarah Lemmon was born in Westmoreland Co., Pa., Feb. 13, 1844, died March 16, 1912, aged 68 years, 1 month and 3 days. She was married to Simeon Shelly, Dec. 15, 1864 at Fairfield, Iowa. To them were born six children, three sons, who were all at her bedside at the time of her death. In 1886 with their family, they came to Dawson Co., Neb., and located on a farm west of Gothenburg which has since been their home. She united with the Presbyterian church some thirty six years ago and upon coming to Gothenburg she united with the Methodist church. She was a loving wife, a kind tender and affectionate mother, a good neighbor, always sympathizing with the sick, the suffering and the afflicted, and always had the confidence and esteem of those who knew her. She suffered severely during the last few months of her life, but was uncomplaining and patient, and was frequently heard to say she was ready to go then the Lord was willing, and often when her body was racked with the most severe pain she would open her eyes and say " I just wanted to tell you how good the Lord Jesus is." Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home by Rev. C. C. Wilson and interment made in Grand View Cemetery beside her husband who preceded her to the heavenly home fifteen years ago.
