(26 Dec 1839 - 8 Dec 1896)
Contributor, Ralph Brown, #48194949, to findagrave.com had me add this:
The Gothenburg, Nebraska, Times of the 18th inst. records the death of a former resident of Jefferson County in this manner:
Simeon Shelly was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, December 26th, 1839; died December 8th, 1896, aged fifty-six years, eleven months, and eight days. He lived in Indiana from May, 1861, to April, 1863, and then moved to Jefferson County, Iowa, where he resided near Fairfield for twenty-two years.
On December 15th, 1864, he was married to Miss Sarah Lemmon. To them were born six children - three sons and three daughters - who were all with him at the time of his death except one daughter, Mrs. W.C. Hallowell, who lives near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
In 1886, with his family, he came to Dawson County, Nebraska, and located on a farm near Gothenburg, which has been their family home for the past nine years. Mr. Shelly was a kind, loving husband, an affectionate neighbor, always in sympathy with the sick and suffering. He had the confidence and esteem of those who knew him.
His early religious training was according to the Quaker faith. He was a member of the M.E. Church at Gothenburg, being received and baptized by the writer. For the past four years he was a great sufferer from paralysis, but uncomplaining and patient.
