Hammond, 86, died Thursday evening, Feb. 17, 2005, in West Village Care Center, Independence, following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Shelly Funeral Home, Manchester, by the Rev. Charles Hewlett of Pine Creek Baptist Church, rural Independence. Burial: Bethel Cemetery, near Osterdock. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Survivors include five sons, Gary of Waukon, Roger of California, Lavern of Clinton, Francis of Woodward and Larry of Council Bluffs; a daughter, Dorothy of Des Moines; three brothers, LeRoy of Lamont, Leo of Waukon and Nathan of Blue Grass; and three sisters, Bernita Hodekk of Cresco, Velma Phillips of Lime Springs and Silvia Schaub of Guttenberg.
