Burlington Stardard Press, Burlington, Wisconsin, 6 Aug 2007: Ruth E. Whitmore, 86, Union Grove, formerly of Burlington, died July 27, 2007, at the Veterans Home in Union Grove. She was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Troy Center, to the late William A. and Caroline (Mueller) Clason. She spent her early life in the Honey Creek area and attended Rochester Ag School. She married Lester L. Whitmore Dec. 8, 1945, at First Methodist Church in Burlington. Following marriage, they lived in Lyons, then Burlington for 56 years. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2006. She was a waitress at Hotel Badger, and an office worker at Nestlés, Burlington Foods, Stan's Glass and Burlington Water Department. She was a member of Burlington United Methodist Church and the Methodist Church Women, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 153, VFW Auxiliary Post 2823 and a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul and Meals on Wheels. Survivors include her son, William (Inger) Whitmore; daughter-in-law, Sue Whitmore; grandchildren, Peter, Regina, Melissa, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Emily, Josh, Conrad, David, Matthew; sisters, Hazel Sheard and Ferne Montague. She was further preceded in death by her son, Floyd; grandsons, Patrick and Morten Whitmore; brothers, Ralph and Elmer Clason. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Maurer Hall, 21425D Spring St., Union Grove, with a memorial service at 1:45 p.m., with Ron Tichy officiating. Inurnment will follow in Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements. Memorials to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove, are suggested.
