Lester L. Whitmore, 86, Union Grove, died Oct. 10, 2006, at Union Grove Wisconsin Veterans Home. He was born Jan. 10, 1920, in Spring Prairie, to the late Floyd and Nettie (Smart) Whitmore. He spent his early life in Spring Prairie and was a graduate of East Troy High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Ruth E. Clason, Dec. 8, 1945, at United Methodist Church in Burlington. Following marriage, they resided in Lyons and then Burlington for 56 years. They had been residents of Union Grove for the past four years. He was a machinist at Brass Works in Burlington. He was also a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church and the church's men's club. He belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Burlington Chapter 153 and the Burlington VFW. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Whitmore, Union Grove; son, William (Inger) Whitmore; daughter-in-law, Sue Whitmore; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Jessie Hill. He was preceded in death by his son, Floyd; brother, Lee; and grandchildren, Patrick and Morten Whitmore. A Memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m., at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Union Grove. The Rev. Marjorie Rice Myers will officiate. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements. Memorials to Southern Wisconsin Veterans Home, Union Grove, are suggested.
