Emma Elizabeth Roland was born to Mr. & Mrs. R. B. Rowland at Oetumwa, Iowa, on July 25, 1869, and died at Cozad, Dawson Co., Nebraska, June 11, 1952 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 17 days. She came with her parents to Nebraska as a child, locating in Saline County. In 1882 they moved to Cozad, and here she made her home for the balance of her life. In October of 1889, she was united in marriage to Ben Applegate. Three children were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death in 1924. She was a faithful member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cozad, and always attended services when her health would permit. One of the things which distressed her most in the last few years of her life was her inability to be active in the work of her church and it's Woman's Society, of which she was also a member. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a dear aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She leaves to mourn her passing, her three sons; Leonard and Clyde of Cozad, and Lloyd of North Platte; one brother, John Rowland of Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the evangelical United Brethren church in Cozad Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. F. F. Gross, pastor of the church, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Harlan Welch, Mrs. F. F. Gross, Mrs. Clarence Kauffman and Miss Donna Jean Bartlett, with Mrs. Bruce Hergenrader as the organist. Pallbearers were Art Ballmer, A. R. Richey, Archie Smith, Glen Rose, Herbert Ballmer, and Evert Rose. Burial was in Grand View cemetery. Grand View Cemetery Gothenburg Nebraska. Book, Compiled by Patricia A.
