Benniah G. Applegate was born on January 12, 1866, in Wappolo county, Iowa. His parents came to Nebraska in the year 1878, locating in Saline county, when he was twelve years old. He lived in Saline county until 1887 when he came to Dawson county, where he spent the remainer of his life. Mr. Applegate was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Rowland, October 30, 1889, and to this union were born three boys, Leonard Francis of North Platte, Lloyd Dewey and Clyde Elmer, who are still living at home. Mr. Applegate united with the Evangelical church when thirty years old and remained a devoted Christian the rest of his life. Two years ago last February, Mr. Applegate had a light stroke of paralysis, and had been ailing ever since. At times it seemed almost impossible for him to breathe. He expressed a desire that death might come very suddenly and that he might be received into the land where there is no agony and grief, but where there is peace and comfort, and eternal rest. Finally after patient waiting, the fatal stroke came at two o'clock, November 6, 1924. He grew weaker until eight o'clock that evening, when his eyes were closed to this world, to awake to the heavenly blessedness which is promised to those that love the Lord. Mr. Applegate left to morn his loss, a wife and three sons, a daughter-in-law, and three grand children. As sorrow has entered into this home the loved ones may rest assured that a host of friends and neighbors extend their deepest sympathy. The services wee conducted at the Walnut Grove Methodist Episcopal church, by Rev. CV. E. Brittain. The body was laid to rest in the Grand View Cemetery. Grand View Cemetery Gothenburg Nebraska.
