Joseph Francis Kirkpatrick
(9 Oct 1852 - 6 Jun 1917)
Joseph was born in Lee County, Iowa, 9 October 1852. He married Julia Russell in Boone County, Arkansas, on 2 May 1872. Officiating was Rev. J. F. New. Julia died 16 March 1882 at the age of 27 years. Joe married a second time to Olive McCracken in Jefferson County, Iowa, 10 October 1882. Olive was born 28 January 1856 and died 26 January 1914. She was the daughter of Hiram and Dinah (Hadley) McCracken of Richland, Iowa. Joseph lists himself in the marriage papers as a farmer of Lee County, Iowa, near Baker. The couple, however, removed to Dawson County, Nebraska, probably in the early 1880's, and Joseph died there 6 January 1917. He and his wife were active in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church. Both are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, Nebraska. Julia Russell Kirkpatrick, Kirkpatrick's first wife is buried in the McDowell Cemetery in Jefferson County, Iowa.
There were four children of the first marriage, and four children of the second marriage.
1880 Census Polk, Nodaway Co., Missouri shows J. F. Kirkpatrick, wife Julia, Rena, Delioan, and May Kirkpatrick. Also in household Wm. Russell age 17 born in Iowa (Julia's brother?) and H. Kirkpatrick, male, age 18, born in Iowa.
On the 1900 U. S. Census of Coyote Precinct, Dawson Co., Nebraska, Joseph Kirkpatrick appears with his wife Olive. M. and children D. Ison, H. Chancy, A. Harlen, and A. Fern. Joseph's brother-in-law Hiram McCracken age 37 and single is also in the household. Joseph and Olive have been married 17 years. Olive is the mother of 5, 4 of whom are currently living. Joseph is a farmer.
