Tinkey, 80, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa. James Dennis Tinkey was born January 4, 1930, in North Buena Vista, Iowa, the son of Fred and Ruby (Hosier) Tinkey James attended rural country school near Buena Vista, and then country school near Delhi, finishing his education with the Delhi public school. James was united in marriage to Nancy Humphrey in 1950 and they were later divorced. Four children were born to this union: Jimmy, Peggy, Michael & Mary Ellen. James enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country with two tours of duty, which included the Korean Conflict. He was then honorably discharged and moved back to Iowa for a short time before moving to California. James married Genevieve M. Wolfe in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1973. They moved back to Iowa to make their home in 1995. He is survived by his son, Jimmy (Marcie) Tinkey of Aurora, Colo., his daughter, Denise Tinkey of Gold Hill, Oregon, five step-children, Robert (Joyce) Grondahl of Tacoma, Wash., Kenny (Claudia) Grondahl of San Jose, Calif., Steve (Sheryl) Grondahl of Cottonwood, Calif., Melanie Grondahl of Strawberry Point, Mark (Cindy) Grondahl of Grants Pass, Oregon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Lavern (Theresa) Tinkey of Lamont, one sister, Irma Reth of Edgewood; and one sister-in-law, Katherine Tinkey of Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Genevieve in 2008; two daughters, Peggy and Mary Ellen; one son, Michael; two brothers, Bill and Roy “Bud” Tinkey; and two sisters, Alberta Hall and Ida Mae Cornwell.
