The Post Standard, Syracuse, New York, November 9, 1966: Mrs. Leland (Rita) Demarest, 63, of Fair Haven and Safe Harbor, Fla., died Monday afternoon while en route to the Oswego Hospital in the ambulance of the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Department. She had recently suffered a broken hip in a fall. A native of Oklahoma, she was formerly a resident of Meridian and Cato. Mrs. Demarest was a post secretary of the Rural Letter Carriers Association of Cayuga County, as well as secretary of the State Association of Rural Letter Carriers. She was a member of the Wayne County 8ct 40, past President Parlay of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Wolcott Legion Auxiliary and the Fair Haven Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Leland Demarest; a retired mail carrier, a son Roderick Demarest; a grandson, Lee; her father John Pike of Wichita, Kan.; two sister, Mrs. Ollie Shipley of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. H. B. Wilson of Goddard, Kan. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Becker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Springbrook Cemetery at Fair Haven. Friends may call 3 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
