Jacob Michael Seitter

On the 1880 U. S. Census of Bates, Carroll Co., Missouri Jacob Seiter appears with his wife Sarah and children Gerta, Fannie, Lillie, Joseph and Laura. Also in the household is James John Seiter age 14 listed as other in relationship to Jacob. Perhaps he is a nephew?

The Chillicothe Morning Constitution, Chillicothe, Missouri, Friday, July 13, 1906: Jacob Seitter is Found Dead. Well Known Farmer Expired in Barnyard. Came of Sturdy German Stock and Had Many Relatives West and Southwest of Here. Jacob Seitter, aged 67 years. was found dead in his barnyard near Plymouth, Carroll County, Thursday morning by members of his family, says the Utica Herald. It is supposed the old gentleman had risen early and gone out on a walk. He had been complaining for some time, but his death was not looked for, and heart failure evidently was the cause. Jacob Seitter was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, and came to America in 1853. He had been on the farm where he died for nearly 35 years, and was known all over two counties. He leaves a widow and five children, Mrs. Gertie Timbrook of Braymer, Mrs. Fannie Price of Avalon, Mrs. Lily Griffith of Iowa, Joseph and Laura at home. Mr. Seitter came to sturdy German parentage. Eight brothers and sisters survive him, one of whom Mrs. Catherine Bonderer, lives in Utica. The others are: Caroline Uhland, Liberty, Ill., Mary Kepply, Breckenridge; Della Wetzel, Plymouth; Louisa Bonderer, of Utica, but now in Vattis, Switzerland; Chris Seitter, Geary, Oklahoma; Gus Seitter, Braymer; Michael Seitter, Plymouth. Funeral services were held from the late residence of the deceased at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Posted at Find-A-Grave.com: Jacob immigrated to America in 1853 with his parents from Germany when he was 14 years of age.The family sailed from Antwerp aboard the "Bark Mayflower", and landed at Ellis Island, NY. He served in the Civil War in Co. C, 50th Ill. Regt. He was wounded at Alatoona GA during Sherman's march to the sea. After the civil War, the Seitter family settled in the Plymouth community in Carroll Co. MO.
