On the 1930 U. S. Census of Sidney, Richland Co., Montana Evlin Herbert appears with his wife Lois and children Lois M., William E., Charles A., Irene C., Evelyn R. and Evlin. Evlin Sr. states he was 28 when first married, Lois states she was 16. It appears the only child that is Evlin Sr.'s would be Evlin, Jr. Evlin, Sr. states he is a veteran of World War I. He works as a machist in a sugar factory.
Billings Gazette, Billings, Montana, June 29, 1967: Evlin Herbert Sr., 69, of 3317 2nd Ave. S. died Wednesday morning, at his home after a long illness. A retired carpenter, Mr. Herbert had worked for Hardy Construction Co. until 1960. He was born March 30, 1898, at Ekalaka, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Evlin K. Herbert, and moved with his parents to Sidney, where he was educated. Mr. Herbert married Lois Palin, Dec. 4, 1926 in Sidney. They moved to Billings in 1933. Mr. Herbert, is survived by the widow; two sons, Evlin Herbert Jr. of 4334 Stone St., and Clarence E. Herbert of Clark Ave., a daughter Mrs. Charles D. Brawley, of 802 Ave. F, four step-children Charles a. Mullennax of Conrad, Mrs. Lee Johnson of Walkerville, Mrs. Byron Foreman DuPont, Wash., and Mrs. H. T. Jennings of Calgary, Alta.; two brothers, William Herbert of Spanaway, Wash., and Milo Herbert of Missoula; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Palmer of Clinton and Mrs. Gertrude Torkelson of Gladstone, Ore.; and 16 grandchildren. Smith's Funeral Home is in charge.
