Obituary from the Palladium-Item, February 12, 1998: Velma J. Minor. Former Richmond resident Velma J. Minor, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Hearne Health Care Inn in Morgantown. She was born Feb. 23, 1908, in Grey Hawk, Ky., to Frank Finley and Mary E. Engle Judd. She had lived in Morgantown since 1989, moving there from Richmond. She had worked at the Starr Piano Factory in Richmond for several years and was the manger of Tiny's Diner in Richmond for 10 years before retiring in 1970. A member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond and the Morgantown Senior Center, she enjoyed quilting, painting and gardening. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Burton of Franklin and Sharon King of Morgantown; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Minor, whom she married Dec. 1, 1928, in Indianapolis, on Feb. 11, 1984; two brothers, Walter and Charles Judd; and five sisters, Nellie J. Goodlin, Stella Sandlin, Bertha Fox, Grace Witt and Maude Jones. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Earlham Cemetery in Richmond with the Rev. Ed Pearson officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
