Albert Neilson Hornby J. P.

Of Church Minshull, Cheshire, and subsequently of Parkfield, Nantwich. Educated at Harrow. Lancashire and England cricketer. Made first appearance for Lancs. C.C.C., 1867; last appearance, 1899. Captain of Lancashire, 1881-91; Joint-Captain, 1892 and 1893; Captain again, 1897 and 1898. Played in three Test Matches for England v. Australia, (Captain of England in 1882). Scorer of 10,294 runs for Lancashire, (15,798 in all 1st. class matches). Scored 18 centuries in all 1st. class matches, including one for England in Australia, one for England vs. Glos. and Yorks., two for Gentlemen v. Players, one for Gents. of North v. Gents. of South, and one for M.C. President of Lancs. C.C.C., 1894-1916. Also played Association Football for Blackburn Rovers F.C., and was a Rugby Football international (9 "caps"). J.P. (Cheshire), 1896.
