"Of Fairway, and subsequently of The Old House, St. Michael's-on-Wyre. Educated at Rugby. Served in Gt. War, 1914-19, as Capt., Lancs. Hussars Yeomanry. represented Upper Rawcliffe-with-Tarnacre on Garstang R.D.C., 1930-67, (Chairman, 1937-38). J.P. (Lancs.), 1940. Chairman, Garstang magistrates, 1961-69. One-time member of Lancaster and Morcambe Divisional Education executive, and of North-West Electricity Consultative Council. A Governor of Garstang Secondary Modern School. One-time church-warden, St. Michael's-on-Wyre parish Church, and a member of numerous other local organisations. Succeesed his uncle, Hugh Phipps Hornby, Esq., (q.v.), to the St. Michael's estate and, with his elder brother, Rev. Hugh Leycester Hornby, M.C., M.A., as Joint-Patron of the living of St. Michael's, 1944."
