Alice MURPHY
(27 Feb 1905 - 12 Oct 1964)
After receiving her secondary education at Loreto school in Clonmel, Alice attended college in Hendon, London from which she graduated with a teaching qualification. She then worked as a teacher in the Norwood area of south London before returning to Ireland, where she married and raised a family.
As a a niece of Alice remembers, "Visiting Aunty Alice was always pleasant as she kept a beautiful home - always had lilies all over the house - and loved her polished furniture and shiny brasses.... Alice was a perfect lady, very soft spoken and refined."
