Mary Ann HUDSON

(Abt 10 Sep 1878 - 27 Mar 1959)

Sponsors at Mary Ann's baptism were James Cunningham and Mary Cunningham. Although Mary Ann was born in Kilbaha she was baptised in Athea, Co. Limerick, following the tradition at the time of baptising the first-born child in the mother's home parish.

Mary Ann and her husband, John, lived in Coilagurteen, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Note that Coilagurteen is not an actual townland but comprises part of the townland of Carhooearagh (also spelled Carrueragh) and perhaps part of the townland of Kylebwee (also spelled Coilbee). The Doody farm was situated in the Carhooeragh area of Coilagurteen.

It appears that Mary Ann and her husband, John, did not have any children because, in the early 1920s, they gave over their farm to Mary Ann's youngest sister Ellen Broderick (20 years Mary Ann's junior) and Ellen's husband, Paddy, apparently in return for being looked after for the remainder of their lives. The owner's name was not changed by the Valuation Office from John Doody to Patrick Broderick until 1927 but it is possible the actual transfer of ownership had occurred some years earlier.
