Ray M. Wyse, 94, of Midland, died Sunday March 5, 2006, at his residence at the MidMichigan Stratford Village. He was born on Aug. 23, 1911, in Archbold, Ohio, the sixth of 10 boys to the late Albert and Abigail (Baer) Wyse. On July 15, 1933, he married Selvina Ropp. She predeceased him on Sept. 8, 1975. On Oct. 23, 1976, he married Hazel (Harris) Messer; she survives him. Ray had worked for The Dow Chemical Co. for 41 1/2 years, retiring in 1975. He had been an active member of the Midland Mennonite Church and Eagle Ridge Church of God. He had been a caretaker for the Charlevoix Church of God Church Camp for several years. Ray was a past chief of police in Midland Township and had served 17 years with the Midland Township Fire Dept., 10 of those years as the fire chief. He had been active with the Midland Civil Defense and the Midland Red Cross. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons, Ronald Wyse of Nashville, Ind. and Randy (Janet) Wyse of Midland; three daughters, Janice Wyse of Petoskey, Myra (Ron) Shand of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Mary (Mel) Kauffman of Harbor Springs; seven grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Willard (Erma) Wyse of Midland; stepchildren, Bud (Ruth) Messer of Gladwin, Louise (Rich) Hartgrove of Rosebush and Charlene (Larry) Brugger of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by eight brothers, Edwin, Dan, Oscar, Lester, Homer, Ora, Lawrence and Monroe; a stillborn sister, Ida; and his stepson, Dan Messer. Funeral services will take place 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, from the Eagle Ridge Church of God, 2808 Waldo Ave. The Rev. Kenneth DeMaere and the Rev. James Shanks will officiate, with graveside burial rites in Poseyville Cemetery. Ray's family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Midland Township Fire Dept., the Charlevoix Church of God Church Camp or the Eagle Ridge Church of God.
