Walter Knight Shirley, 11th Earl Ferrers was born on 5 June 1864.1 He was the son of Reverend Walter Waddington Shirley and Philippa Frances Emilia Knight.2 He married Mary Jane Moon, daughter of Robert Moon and Mary Jane Pacy, on 9 July 1890.1 He died on 2 February 1937 at age 72.1
He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was an architect.1 He succeeded as the 11th Viscount Tamworth, of co. Stafford [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.2 He succeeded as the 17th Baronet Shirley, of Staunton Harold [E., 1611] on 26 July 1912.1 He succeeded as the 11th Earl Ferrers [G.B., 1711] on 26 July 1912.2
