Individual Details
Thomas (Henry) Hoffpauir
(1788 - 1863)
The question of Thomas' birth date is still to be resolved. we have census data indicating that he was born in 1777, but his tombstone (which is no longer available) is said to have listed the year as 1788. The fact that no children are listed as with Thomas and Marie in New Orleans in 1778 is another reason to doubt the 1777 date.
Thomas Hoffpauir is referred to as Henry Hoffpauir in the marriage record of one of his sons, Elijah: HOFFPOWER, Eli (Henry & Winny Forman) m. 19 Feb. 1833 Cedalise FORMAN of Opel. (Laf. Ct. Hse.: Mar. #86) [SWLR Vol. 3 p. 335]..... HOWEVER, Felton Morgan has a copy of the marriage license of Eli Hoffpauir & Caroline Forman. He says that he can see how whoever extracted for Father Hebert misread Thomas for Henry. However there is a permission slip in the file signed by Thomas Hoffpauir - the signature is of Thomas (son of Thomas the emigrant) & Winney Hoffpauir (her mark) The name is clearly not Henry but is Thomas. So, because of all the uncertainty and to clearly distinguish him as an individual different from the "original" Thomas, I'm listing Henry as a nickname.

Notes
Birth
I have chosen to use 1788 rather than 1777 for Thomas' birth date because if he was born in 1777, he should have been listed as a child of Thomas and Marie Charlotte in the census of New Orleans, conducted in June, 1778. Instead, Thomas and Marie Charlotte are listed without any children at the time of the census.
