On 7 Oct 1807, he was appointed as administrator for his father's estate per FHC film 913806: NY Surrogate Court packet #480.
1797 June 2nd, Jehiel Sherwood purchased a farm from James Porter being one quarter mile south of the Sears burying ground at Doansburg, Dutchess Co., NY (now in Putnam Co which formed in 1812) containing 31 acres. The farm is on the north side of the line between Lot 8 and 9 of the Philipse Patent. The area is also known as Town Southeast. See "History of Putnam Co., NY" by William S. At the death of his father it became the property of his son Lyman and it has been in the possession of his family to the present time.
