Phebe Grant

(27 Apr 1745 - 27 Apr 1808)

Per "New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial" compiled by William Richard Cutter, A.M., Vol. IV, dated 1915, page 1985, found at Google Books: Isaac Johnson married Phebe Grant, a descendant of Matthew Grant, one of the early settlers of CT, and ancestor also of General U. S. Grant. The above indicates that Phebe was not the daughter of Matthew Grant but a "descendant".

Per the "History of Coos County, New Hampshire" by Georgia Drew Merrill published in 1888, page 762: "The wife of Isaac Johnson was Phoebe Grant, whose father was a Congregational clergyman".

THIS NEEDS TO BE PROVEN: In the "Pane-Joyce Genealogy" found in Google, Rev. John Grant married Phebe Andrews and was a Presbyterian minister at Westfield, NJ, and the father of Phebe Grant who was born 27 Apr 1745 died 27 Apr 1808.

1808 death date is based on a hand written chart believed to have been done by Grace Brown Bresee which also lists her children. Death location is based on family location in the 1800 and 1820 census.

1800 census for her husband, Isaac Johnson shows him in Stratford, Grafton Co., NH age 45 and over (actual age was 59) living with 2 males ages 16-25 (this could then be sons Samuel age 20 and Elisha age 17), a male age 26-44 (this could be one of three older sons), 2 females ages 16-25 (could be daughter Lydia age 16 and another unknown female) plus a female age 45 and over (this is then Phebe age 55. This is not Coos Co. but Grafton Co.

1790 census shows her as one of two females living with her husband, Isaac Johnson and their children in Stratford, NH.

1762 marriage date and location is based on a hand written chart believed to have been done by Grace Brown Bresee.
