Notes
Birth
His tombstone states he was abt 80 years when he died. This would make his birth date about 1754 to 1755. He was baptized in November, 1756 but his baptismal record does not give his birth date. He gives his birth date as 1756 when he applies for a Revolutionary War pension. This is the most reliable birth date for him. Also, it is closer to his baptismal date.Military
According to his pension papers, he was taken prisoner during the Battle of Long Island and confined on the the British prison ship "Roe Buck" for five days, then on another prison ship for a few days, and then confined to the "Presbyterian Meeting house" in New York for seventeen weeks and five days where many men died. He was "paroled" in New York by the British, marched to Burlington, New Jersey on foot, and taken by wagon to Philadelphia to a "hospital (as it was called)." He then returned home on "parole" and received notice about two years later that he had been "exchanged."His brother, Henry Riblet, and his sister, Polly Zook (Zuck) also gave affidavits to support his claim for a pension.
